The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah intends for you ease; He does not intend hardship for you; and (He intends) that you should complete the period, and that you should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that perhaps you may be thankful.
(Qur’an, Chapter 2, Verse 185)
The blessed month of Ramadaan is a month of faith and excellence in prayer, fasting, charity and good deeds. It is a month where Muslims all over the world keep away from food, drink and sexual intercourse from dawn to sunset — with the purpose of attaining self-control (taqwa).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged us to feed the fasting person:
Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.”
With this spirit in mind, MSA-UQ has provided the UQ Muslim community with the opportunity to contribute to the iftaar of Muslim students on campus for the past 13 years.
The aim of iftaar sponsorship is to attain rewards from Allah, to please Him alone, and not for self-promotion, group competition or business advertising.
