Q. What do dressing up, delicacies and Da’wah have in common?

Short Answer:
UQ Cultural Fiesta – Tuesday 22 May, 2012 – 10am to 2pm.
Part of UQ Diversity Week 2012.

Long Answer:
The Cultural Fiesta is one of the highlights of UQ’s Diversity Week.  It gives the opportunity for students to share their culture with the greater University community.  Last year was amazing with the Muslim Students showcasing their variety of cultures from the Far East to the Middle East and Asia.  The Cultural Fiesta provides a wonderful opportunity to share Islam and its traditions with non-Muslims, from beliefs and practices all the way to food and clothing!

Come along for Cultural Fiesta 2012 and follow these three steps!

  1. Wear your favourite traditional clothes
  2. Bring along some of your favourite foods
  3. Call your friends along!

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.”

Narrated by Muslim, 1162.

 

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

I never saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) so keen to make sure he fasted any day and preferring it over another except this day, the day of ‘Ashoora’, and this month – meaning Ramadaan.

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1867.

For many of you, this will be your first Ramadaan away from home.  The Muslim community at UQ is welcoming and diverse.  New students will feel at home during Ramadaan.  Every night, students get together and share iftaar at the Multi-faith Centre.  Taraweeh prayers are also performed there.
